Holiday Regions in Salzburg

National Park Hohe Tauern

The Hohe Tauern National Park holiday region holds many exciting events in both winter and summer. All of the municipalities that belong to the national park – Fusch-Großglockner, Embach-Lend, Uttendorf-Weisssee, Mittersill, Wald-Königsleiten, Stuhlfelden, Hollersbach, Bruck-Großglocker, Rauris, Bramberg, Neukirchen, Niedernsill, Taxenbach, Piesendorf and Krimml-Hochkrimml – help protect and gently develop the region. Whether you are looking for hiking trails or traditional regional events, rustic and minus the kitsch, the natural charm of the national park will enthral you!

With a total of 1,836 km², Hohe Tauern National Park is one of the largest national parks in the Alps. It is a unique and pristine Alpine environment filled with the wonders of nature and culture. It rises from 1,000 m to 3,798 m above sea level at the peak of the Großglockner Mountain. Hiking from the valley to the glacier-capped peaks is like travelling through the Arctic, as it offers all of the different climate zones from Central Europe to the polar region. The newly built waterfall centre is the ideal starting point for visitors of the world-renowned Krimml Waterfalls.
Hohe Tauern National Park is unbeatable in winter too. It is directly connected to eight separate and modern ski areas with 870 kilometres of exceptional pistes.
